| Even as our company has grown
larger, the principles of a family-run business -- trust, honesty and
respect -- continue to be our foundation. Our company was founded in
1931 by Ingwer Magnussen. A cabinetmaker by trade and a craftsman and
businessman by heart, Ingwer took the bold initiative to start his own
business in Kitchener, Ontario, when he was unable to find work during
the 1930s depression. He beautifully and intricately carved show wood
for sofa frames for upholstery manufacturers and his business grew into
a good-sized company serving Canada. Richard Magnussen, Ingwer's son, joined the company in 1970 at the age of 20. Richard steered the company's focus on expansion and growth, enabling Magnussen Furniture to become Canada's largest supplier of occasional tables. In 1986, Richard founded Presidential Furniture, a division of Magnussen Furniture, to serve the U.S. market. In 1986, the company began trading as Magnussen-Presidential Furniture, which became one of the most progressive occasional furniture suppliers in North America. With an eye to detail and an understanding of the worth of exclusive designs, Richard built relationships with international manufacturers from around the world and tapped a huge growth opportunity. Magnussen-Presidential Furniture began importing from the Orient a decade before fashion trends and design styles in the furniture business made it in vogue to do so. In 2002, Magnussen-Presidential Furniture became Magnussen Home. The addition of "Home" reflects who we are and what we are offering as a company -- fine furniture, designed and created by a family of craftsmen from around the world, to fill the most important rooms in your home. |
